Award-winning artist Elizabeth Nah-glee-eh-bah Abeyta (5/6/1955-12/17/2006), created this sculpture, titled, "Contemplating Marriage," circa 1990's. Elizabeth won top awards at Indian Market, Gallup Ceremonial, and her work is represented in museums, collected worldwide and was featured in the award-winning book, Beyond Tradition. Elizabeth's clay sculptures were an intimate expression of her Navajo heritage. Her sculptures considered magical, without the boundaries of traditional Native American culture. The sculptures seem to be caught mid-song or within the moment of a story. The Abeyta family is originally from Canoncito, NM (To'Hajiilee), and is specific to the Canoncito Band of Navajo. Her father, Narciso Ha-so-de Abeyta, was world renowned for his paintings. The father and children differed in content and style in many ways, but their work all connects to life on the Navajo reservation, the world outside of the four sacred mountains of Dinetah, and especially celebrates the continuum of Hozho, Navajo concept of beauty and balance and harmony being at one with the world around you. This sculpture is a great exemplar of her talent and her penchant for including small fun pieces. She measures 16" high, 12" wide, 8 1/2" deep. This piece does not qualify for free shipping.
