Treasure necklaces evolved from the old-time "tab" necklaces, named for how wafers of turquoise were drilled and interspersed on heishi necklaces. Tina learned her craft from her mother, the well known Laura Moquino. Tina's treasure necklaces are an eclectic and fun collection of stones and shells, carved and rolled, and interspersed with sterling beads. This necklace measures approximately 31", and is finished in a traditional waxed braided thread.

Dinah Gasper, award-winning Zuni Pueblo artists created this one strand fetish necklace. The necklace is 31" in length, with thirty-five fetishes, including the center lapis frog. All are hand-carved and strung on hand-ground olive shell. Animals include bears (come from the west and symbolize strength, endurance, the power of the soul and a healing power), frogs (invoke the Spirits to provide rain), birds (who carry prayers to the clouds, asking for blessing), hummingbirds, fox (possessed with cunning and fleetness), and turtle (also a symbol of Mother Earth). The handcarved fetishes range from approximately 1/2” to 1” long by 3/8" high (with variations). The fetishes are carved of a multitude of stones and shells, including natural pink and red coral, mother-of-pearl, jet, sepentine, pipestone, lapis, sodalite, marble, jet and stabilized turquoise animals and birds.

Frank Patania Jr. Anglo Sterling Silver Concho Belt. Son of renowned silversmith, Frank Patania, Sr. and colleague of the late Julian Lovato, both of whom learned silversmithing at Patania Sr's bench. Carrying on legacy of his father, Patania Jr is widely collected and in museums, including two pieces on permanent collection at Renwick Gallery, the fine art arm of the Smithsonian. Eight conchos measure 3 1/8" by 2 5/8". The buckle measures approximately 4" by 3 1/4". Wonderful "bump out" design. Circa 1970's.
