Award-winning Zuni Pueblo artist Lena Boone created this one-strand multi-stone Fetish Necklace and earrings set. The necklace is 28 1/2" long, with twenty-one fetishes, including the center eagle fetish, inlaid with turquoise eyes, all strung on hand-ground olive shell heishi. Animals include bears (come from the west and symbolize strength, endurance, the power of the soul and a healing power), badgers (come from the south, the younger brother of the bear and they stand between night and day and represent perseverance, healing and purification), frogs (invoke the Spirits to provide rain), birds (who carry prayers to the clouds, asking for blessing), mountain lions (come from the north and represent leadership and resourcefulness and charged to guard the children of men from evil and be the Maker of Paths of men's lives), and hummingbirds. The center eagle represents represents the heavens above and symbolizes the spiritual connection. The handcarved fetishes are approximately 1" long, and carved of multi stones: spiny oyster (bird, badgers, eagle), Brazilian Floride (mountain lions and frogs), lapis (bear), jet (moles), dolomite (mountain lions), seafoam jade (bear), and turquoise (birds, wolves, hummingbirds). The center eagle is approximately 1 3/8" long by 3/4" at the widest. The earrings are approximately 2 1/4" long with handcarved Baltic amber birds.
