Award-winning Navajo artist Orville Tsinnie (1943 – 5/23/2017), created this circa 1980's sterling silver and natural turquoise 8-stone cluster buckle. The buckle is 2 5/8" in length by 1 1/2" wide and features 8 natural Morenci turquoise stones from Arizona. The buckle will fit a 7/8" wide belt. Tsinnie was a master silversmith, known for strong contemporary pieces, solid and strongly rooted in traditional Navajo design. Tsinnie used only the best high quality stones, cutting and polishing them himself. He learned jewelry making from his Hopi brother-in-law in the early 1970's and during his career won numerous awards from the prestigious shows, including Santa Fe Indian Market. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award from the Indian Arts and Crafts Association and his pieces featured in Silver & Stone, Profiles of American Indian Jewelers, by Mark Bahti. His pieces were characterized by superior craftmanship and are in collections all over the world.
