A great find (circa 1980's) by the late, award-winning Choctaw artist, Robert Kaniatobe. This three strand fetish Necklace is titled "Show and Tell," and is complete with the original pouch and hand-written card detailing the materials and the original registration number (#31186). The beaver fetishes are handcarved by Robert using 1000 to 5000 year old fossil walrus ivory. The necklace is comprised of mostly antique glass Venetian and Czechoslovakian trade beads including chevrons, pre 1900; "feather" and "eye" beads from 1700's to 1800's; early molded glass from 1600's; Dutch glass from 1600's; also ancient handcarved agate, shell, and shell, brass, copper and sterling silver. The rings symbolize continuity in the universe. The six beavers on the necklace strands measure approximately 1 3/4" long, by 3/4" high and 3/4" deep. Chubby and adorable. The center beaver is approximately 2" long, by 1" high and 1" deep. The necklace strands are graduated in length to lay flat, with longest strand at 28", plus the center beaver. Truly a stunning piece.
